Motion capture9/28/2023 ![]() I’ve also had to play the dying wife in a scene, which was a bit strange, but you just have to go for it! I’ve had to play 5 different parts in the same scene, so in one game I played Hitler talking his generals about his plan, then the door breaks down and 3 or 4 zombies come in and eat them all alive and I had to play every actor in that scene - which is a bit like a day of schizophrenia. What are some of the strangest experiences you’ve had as a mo cap actor? ![]() I mean, in a single day I might play 20 characters - which is great fun. The other challenge, which is probably the part I enjoy the most, is you get to play so many different characters in a short space of time. I then had about 5 minutes to memorise the scene, then he closed the book and left the room and that was the only look I got at the actual script - so it’s pretty intense! So you develop a very good short term memory. In fact on one job the script was so sensitive, on the day of the shoot, a man came out with a black folder, sat down next to me, opened the folder and said ‘take a look’. Video games are particularly secretive, these games take five years to make and they’re trying to prevent any leak before they come out. It can also be mentally challenging, because quite often you’re presented with a script on the day of the shoot. In film, you take breaks in between shots as they relight etc, in theatre you’re on stage for a two hour show, but in mo cap because they are filming all the time you don’t need to take as many breaks, so it can be physically exhausting. It can be very relentless compared to other mediums. What are some of the other challenges of being a mo cap actor? That first experience standing in a lycra suit in the studio in front of people you’re never met can be daunting, but with training, you’re prepared. You need to work with people who have done it before and get your head around it so when you do get the job it’s not a terrifying experience. Beyond that, I think it’s important to get some training. most games have put all their behind the scenes footage on, which is very useful. There’s a lot of videos on youtube, which is a good way of getting your head around what the process involves. All fields of acting have their own methods and techniques and mo cap is no different. I think the first thing is to recognise that it is a different medium. So how would you recommend that actors get involved in mo cap? Nowadays, it’s not as necessary, for instance, the recent game Star Citizen - Squadron 42 and they had Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Gary Oldman and numerous other A-listers and none of these people have physical skills, they are just actors and this is where motion capture is going.ĭo you think there are opportunities for those who just come from an acting background?ĭefinitely, I did a private lesson recently with an actor who has a long history of theatre, he’s in his seventies I believe and he’s in a brand new action video game and was cast for his acting ability. It’s the level of physical coordination it provides, the ability to move your body in many different ways, to be flexible and versatile. They tend to yes because the majority of games have some element of action in. ![]() You have a background in martial arts and gymnastics, do most mo cap actors have a speciality? And because in motion capture your identity is concealed, you can play hundreds and hundreds of characters without there being an issue, so the studio ended up inviting me be back for more and more work. That was my first game, ‘Alias’ based on the Jennifer Garner TV show. A friend of mine had already done a couple of mo cap shoots and they needed another guy, so I auditioned and got the part. When I was 18 I was doing a lot of martial arts and gymnastics. How did you get involved in motion capture? What Actors need to know about Motion Capture PerformanceĬasting Call Pro spoke to Oliver Hollis-Leick, a seasoned motion capture actor who originally trained at Bristol Old Vic and has played a range of iconic roles in his 14 year motion capture career including James Bond, Spider Man, Master Chief (Halo), Iron Man and Ant Man. ![]() But most of the things that people want to graph are either change in one quantity over time or comparisons between related numbers, with or without time elements. Predictably, it depends on what you need to show. If you must use a pie chart, limit yourself to two or three slices at most, use it only for mutually-exclusive, non-overlapping data, and ensure each “slice” has an immediately apparent relationship against the other(s). Anything more complicated, and the chart falls apart. Slices showing anywhere from 1% to 5% of the circle are especially difficult to judge, and it only gets harder as their number of slices increases. Choose a data viz method that’s a good fit for the relationships you want to discuss.Įffectively use pie charts when showing two mutually-exclusive data sets, like answers to a yes-or-no question. ![]() As a result, pie charts can only effectively show the relationships between a few things at once and lack the resolution to display differing magnitudes’ values – a requirement for most natural data sets. But what about a slice that’s one-twentieth the size of the circle? What about a hundredth? Our ability to effectively interact with the circular area breaks down quickly. It’s easy enough to slice a circle in half, after all. You can likely judge what half a circle looks like. Slowing down your audience’s understanding is rarely in your best interest. Don’t make your audience do unnecessary visual work to understand your data. Correctly comparing circular segments is not so easy, requiring more time to make an accurate judgment and arrive at the correct conclusions about the data. A bar chart makes this easy: simply track your eyes horizontally across the page from one bar to another. To compare the relative sizes of pie chart slices, the viewer must mentally superimpose a slice on top of the other. If humans were good at estimating the slice area, we wouldn’t need to do that. Asking the audience for active analysis is asking too much. Each slice is almost certainly labeled with a percentage. You can prove that people are bad at this on your own: look at a pie chart. Unfortunately, estimating the circle sector area is the fundamental basis of pie charts. That means humans are fundamentally worse at understanding exponential relationships than linear relationships. But non-linear growth is not nearly as easy for the brain to intuitively grasp. It’s relatively easy to imagine how much longer one foot is than two feet. The human brain is very good at estimating linear relationships. To figure out what makes a good data visualization, we will look at a bad one: what, exactly, makes pie charts so bad? Judgment Calls: But despite our near-universal fondness for the pie chart, they are concealing a dark and fatal flaw: they’re terrible at conveying information. You’ve seen them in newspapers, textbooks, financial reports, and executive summaries. After the bar graph, pie charts are likely the best-known type of data viz. Pie charts are well-loved by visual designers, from corporate boardrooms to telethons. How hard can it be? Consider our old friend the pie chart. Don’t make these common data visualization mistakes. No one will tell you that your simple charts made them doubt your credibility, but they might be thinking about it. At worse, you might find yourself losing deals without knowing why. ![]() Murky or confusing data visualization will, at best, reduce your presentation’s effectiveness. To make your point effectively, you need reliable charts that instantly reinforce and amplify your messaging. Data visualization is more than just a button in Excel.

Ruth 4 bible study9/28/2023 ![]() Upon return from Babylon a person claiming priestly prerogatives was required to provide a genealogy proving priestly descent. For instance, in order to become a member of the most important social class among the Jewish people, a priest, one had to produce a genealogy connecting one to the family of Aaron. employment: In order to lay claim to certain jobs in the religious system that was central to Israel one had to produce a valid genealogy. ![]() The transfer of land required accurate knowledge of genealogy. 26:52–56 33:54) Sometimes in order to establish one’s claim to property it was legally necessary to produce a valid genealogy to substantiate one’s claim. land: Determining a family’s place of residence in the land was determined by tribes, families, and father’s houses (Num. (Joshua son of Nun, Solomon son of David, etc.) While most preachers and readers skip or ignore biblical genealogies, genealogies were very important to the people of God, but why? Why did God use genealogies in the Bible? Was this merely for the sake of establishing a good pedigree? There were many practical reasons for emphasizing genealogies.Ī. Rarely is a person mentioned in the Old Testament without at least some brief reference to his or her genealogical roots. ![]() Genealogies are sprinkled almost everywhere across the pages of the Old Testament. They were the people of God and this could be traced through their genealogies. The Hebrew people were painfully aware of the importance of history and they used genealogies to link themselves to the past. He says, in 1 Timothy 1:4 - “nor give heed to fables or endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.” It may strike the contemporary reader as rather odd that of all the things Paul could have warned the people of God to avoid, he told them to avoid disputes over genealogies. In fact they were so important that Paul gave specific warning against the misuse of genealogies. Genealogies played an important role in Jewish culture. Imagine - all of that from a genealogy! The Theology of Genealogy ⤒ □ This is a fancy way of saying that Samuel uses this story to point us forward into history towards the last things - the culmination of history itself in the coming of Messiah’s kingdom. Therefore, the concluding genealogy has redemptive/theological dimensions that are eschatological. The whole book of Ruth is also centered on the perpetuation of the generations in Israel, and by extension, on the indispensable culmination of salvation history - here in the person of David, then in the Messiah. Thus the kingdom of David was a kingdom of resurrection life. Think of it - David’s kingdom was historically connected with resurrection as the means by which it was established and as the means by which it would move into the future. The genealogy authenticates the kingdom of David, pushing the promises of David’s kingdom far into the future. His gracious care for two defenseless widows now emerges as divine guidance for the benefit of all Israel. It becomes a bright, radiant thread woven into the fabric of Israel’s larger national history. Suddenly, the simple, clever human story of two struggling widows takes on a startling new dimension. This short genealogy quickly advances the story’s time frame from “long ago” (i.e., “the judges’ days”) to “recently” (i.e. It is not an exaggeration to say that the future course of history was altered with the resurrection at the end of Ruth’s story. Samuel concludes with resurrection reversal in a genealogy of the child Obed, who will be a “restorer of life.” Obed’s birth has an unmistakable connection to the future kingdom of David, and thus it drives the reader into the future. In this sense a birth and a genealogy is a fitting way to conclude Ruth’s story. The story of Ruth concludes with a genealogy - but why? “Why end this beautiful story with a family tree, a piece of dusty historical information about long-dead people?” 1 Samuel moves the reader from famine to harvest, from faithlessness to faithfulness, from widowhood to marriage, from barrenness to fruitfulness, and ultimately from death to life.

Parallax scrolling and seo9/27/2023 ![]() WebPress created a platform-specific plug-in with Background Scroll, and there are several free products-including Scrolly, Scrollorama, Stellar.js and Spritely-that are generating positive buzz throughout the industry. Adobe Muse appears to be-for the moment at least-the go-to resource, but some designers are outwardly upset: Due to the layout-based nature of Muse, the app doesn’t require coding knowledge, which some believe ignores accessibility, page load times and SEO. Many returning visitors lack patience for repeatedly reviewing content on a single site and will leave if there’s no interaction or Playfair card style. Some good jquery plug-ins include Scrolling Parallax Plugin for jQuery, Jarallax NanoScroller.js, PageScroller.js and ZyngaScroller.js. Parallax scrolling is an aesthetically pleasing feature that adds visual interest to web pages, but sites seeking long-term success may find alternate page layouts work better in the end. Here then, were going to look at the pros. The technique grew out of the multiplane camera technique used in traditional animation in the 1930s: 00:00. If you’re just getting started designing with Parallax Scrolling, there are some products available, with more coming soon. But look at it from a web design for SEO perspective, and Parallax Scrolling seems to come out worse for wear. Parallax scrolling is a computer graphics technique in which background images move past the camera more slowly than the foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene. In essence, combining SEO with Parallax scrolling is all about striking the perfect balance, keeping both visitors and search engines happy. However, targeting multiple keywords or phrases on a single page leads to “dilution,” which could give muddled results from search engines. Having a lot of information on one page reduces the need for multiple H1 headers. As a result, not only are you reducing your pages but your use of headers as well. Visiting a parallax website certainly ensures that your audience remembers you, but look at it from a web design perspective from an. SEO Complications Because Parallax uses animated scrolling, you will have to try to condense as many pages as you can into one. This fake 3D effect takes the visitor on a 'small journey' and provides a great user experience. Provided you have good content on each page, your SEO should work great. Parallax will help you in creating an illusion of depth when web pages seem to move as you scroll down or sideways. Experts highly recommend putting just one target keyword or phrase per Parallax Scrolling page. And with the resurrection of Parallax Scrolling, software companies are scrambling to unleash a torrent of plug-ins and third-party products for use by web designers, helping make their sites Search Engine Optimized (SEO) and the pages more seamless, all in line with industry best practices and Responsive Web Design.īecause Parallax Scrolling is a design technique meant to be applied to one URL (a single page) rather than entire website on one URL, throwing SEO into the mix can be tricky. As with so much in the tech world, demand fosters development.
